Baseball
The Beaver Valley Athletic Association has been running their baseball program for many years. When it started, there were enough kids to play in a town league without having to travel. Over the years, it was decided to enter our teams in the WOAA League and because of the travel to away games, after a few years we decided to find something closer. In 2001, we joined the South Simcoe Baseball League which is a house league and is interested in the playing development of our kids. Some of the teams we play against are Collingwood, Stayner, Wasaga Beach, Elmvale, Angus, Barrie, New Lowell and a few other towns on the outskirts of South Simcoe. Each team plays in a Mid Season Tournament and the younger teams have a Year End Tournament with the older kids having playoff formats. Wasaga Beach and Ivy each host a Blue Jay Clinic where all kids can come and get some tips on their skills from former Blue Jay coaches and players. We run a T-Ball program with kids aged 3-5. They play one night a week where kids learn the basics of throwing, fielding, catching and batting. They don't travel and they don't play any games, just amongst themselves. There is also a House League/Fun Night for kids 7-14. This group also plays one night a week with no traveling. We have teams that play in the Jr. and Sr. Rookie divisions where they use a pitching machine for batting and softer balls than a baseball. In Tyke, ages 10 & 11, the kids start to pitch and learn this aspect of the game. We also have teams playing Pee-Wee, Bantam and Midget. As the kids have gotten older, we are looking at the possibility of having a team play either Junior or Senior ball in the North Dufferin Baseball League. To help support ourselves, we run a couple fund raisers during the season. In 2007, after the tragic accident that claimed the lives of 5 young men from town, we held our 1st Annual Memorial Day to honor 4 boys who came up thru the baseball system. All teams played a home game on a Saturday in June and it was so popular, that we will continue to host this day every year to remember our loved ones who are no longer with us. We try to host a Mid Season and Year End tournament to raise money and show the rest of the league what a wonderful facility we have in town. Baseball helps encourage teamwork and cooperation. It helps improve concentration skills and hand-eye coordination. Most of all it's a lot of fun for the players and the spectators. We are always in need of HELP. If you don’t want to play but would like to umpire, we host a clinic to get you started and you can make $20-40 in an hour or two.If you would like to help out or want more information, e-mail cinron@bmts.com or call Ron Lennox at 519-599-3871.

Figure Skating
The Beaver Valley Skating Club has been in operation for over 50 years. We are a registered Skate Canada club. We offer a variety of programs.
History of the Beaver Valley Figure Skating Club
During Canada's Centennial year, 1967 , the B.V.A.A. made a decision to initiate a figure skating program in hte Beaver Valley. Until then the BVAA had only dealt with boys' sports. A Ladies' Auxiliary was formed to assist with this new program.
Following the BVAA motto "For Youth We Strive", their objective was to ensure that every child who wished to learn to skate was provided an opportunity to do so. Funds were raised for ice time and coaching through countless hours in the arena canteen, bake sales etc.
Rose Kusiar became our professional coach in 1975, making this her 35th year with the BVAA. In 2010 Rose decided to retire from being the Beaver Valley Figure Skating Club's Professional Coach. We want to thank her very much for her years of hard work and for the dedication she has shown to each and every one of her skaters! Rose has decided to not leave the Club entirely and will be running our Power Skating Program and will also offer Private Skate lessons to anyone who is interested. The Beaver Valley FSC would like to welcome Karen Verbrugge to our team! Karen will be our new Club Professional and will be working with the skaters in all of the different programs. We are looking forward to Karen's enthusiasm and skill that she will bring to our home ice! Karen writes, "My motivation is to introduce the sport of figure skating to skaters of all ages and abilities and to encourage and inspire every skater to set and achieve personal goals in a fun, safe and positive environment." Welcome aboard Karen! Today's Skating Club offers a variety of programs from Learn-To-Skate, Power Skating to of course Figure Skating.

Hockey
Starting with 2010, the Beaver Valley Athletic Association and the Meaford Amateur Athletic Association have pooled their OWHA hockey teams to create a new girls hockey program, called Georgian Shores Lightning. Together we will have a stronger and more sustainable program for the girls. In the 2010/2011 season, there will be Atom, Peewee and a Bantam team playing out of the Thornbury Arena; and a Bantam team, two Midget teams and hopefully an Intermediate team, playing out of the Meaford Arena. To find out more about our girls hockey program, please contact: Carla Nicolson at carla.nicolson@rogers.com or Jennifer Wren at fourwrens4@gmail.com

Power Skating
CanPower Skate is an instructional program that teaches skating skills and techniques to hockey and ringette players. The program includes conditioning and power skating drills that are designed to reinforce the skills taught. The program is adaptable to skaters of all ages and ability levels, although it is recommended for skaters who can skate forward the length of the ice using alternate strides. The CanPower Skate program was designed to help skaters develop balance, power and endurance. There are six levels that offer badge rewards in Bronze, Silver and Gold. The skater must achieve a Gold level before moving into the next level. Pre Power have ribbons to coincide with their skating ability.
Rose Kusiar is our Power Skating coach and has been successfully teaching the program for more than 29 years. Her dedication to the Power Skating program shines through as the skaters quickly improve on their skills, and their on-ice confidence grows. Rose's experience is a true asset to our Power Skating program.
